“…The peaks at 875 cm À1 appearing in the spectra of PS/EVA/CaCO 3 and PS/CaCO 3 microspheres were attributed to the out-of-plane vibration of CO 3 2À . 50 The peaks at 1244 and 1733 cm À1 presenting in the spectra of PS/EVA/ CaCO 3 and PS/EVA microspheres were attributed to the stretching vibrations of -C-O-C-and C=O, respectively, which both corresponded to the ester group in EVA molecules. The peaks at 3025 cm À1 were the typical stretching vibrations of aromatic C-H bonds.…”

“…49 For PS/CaCO 3 microspheres, most of nano CaCO 3 fled to the oil-water interface during phase inversion procedure or following polymerization process because of the low viscosity of styrene and poor adhesion between styrene and nano CaCO 3 . Differently, for PS/EVA/CaCO 3 microspheres, the hydroxyl groups on the surface of nano CaCO 3 can interact with the polar ester groups in EVA molecules forming hydrogen bonds, 30,50 which bonds enhanced the adhesion between the EVA molecule and the nano CaCO 3 greatly. The increased adhesion and the increased viscosity of monomer phase caused by the addition of EVA both contributed to inhibit nano CaCO 3 to flee from monomer phase during phase inversion or polymerization.…”
