Reification and symbolization

Abstract: The construction of mental objects by learners is a very complex process and it is desirable to understand it as deeply as possible, especially to understand domain specific subtleties. In this paper we will argue that the adaption of the reification theory that has been used successfully in mathematics education provides new and important insights into the learning of programming.
