Rehabilitation of maxillary arch with attachment-retained mesh-reinforced single complete denture

Abstract: Fabrication of conventional complete dentures was one of the most commonly advised treatment options to mange edentulous patients since many years. One of the commonly encountered challenging tasks in prosthodontics is a clinical situation in which patients have maxillary completely edentulous arches opposing mandibular natural dentition. This situation can be effectively managed by retaining some of the natural teeth as overdenture abutments. Tooth supported overdenture retained by attachments will improve re… Show more

“…[33] Single Complete Denture/Complete Denture when the teeth are completely absent in any one of the arch, the fabrication of a single complete denture is highly recommended to prevent the contact of the teeth and alveolar ridge, to restore function, vertical dimension, esthetics and prevent the development of parafunctional habits. [34] The complete dentures are provided for edentulous patients (edentulous in both jaws) to rehabilitate them by restoring the function form and aesthetics and general health of the patients. The complete dentures are provided with various occlusal schemes such as balanced occlusion, lingualized occlusion, neutrocentric concept and others depending upon the condition of the patients.…”

“…Accordingly, conventional removable dentures still play a pivotal role in restoring oral function. 1 Complete edentulism is of particular concern, namely in the mandibular arch. In fact, tooth loss induces morphological changes of the mandible that ultimately lead to residual ridge resorption.…”

“…This strategy, known as tooth--supported overdenture, relies on attachment systems that enhance retention, support, and stability of the denture, while also reducing alveolar bone resorption and maintaining proprioception, which, collectively, improve patient comfort and satisfaction. 1 In addition, tooth -supported attachments allow better occlusal distribution and absorption of masticatory forces. 3 A variety of overdenture attachments are available.…”
