Aim To evaluate healthcare workers' knowledge, attitudes and practices level of prevention and management of catheter‐associated urinary tract infection. Design A mixed‐methods systematic review. Methods Searches were conducted in CINAHL, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Medline, PubMed and Web of Science databases. Limited literatures published in English before 20 June 2021. Data were analysed and synthesized using thematic analysis by two authors. Results Thirty‐four articles were included. Healthcare workers' unbalanced varied knowledge level, positive attitudes, undesirable practices of catheter‐associated urinary tract infection's prevention and control were identified. Barriers of healthcare workers' knowledge, attitudes and practices level of infection prevention included heavy workload, understaffing, physician variability in indwelling urinary catheter (IUC) practice by diagnosis, nursing variability in IUC placement technique, poor relationship and nurse's poor documentation. Leadership, better education, teamwork, technique training and information technology support, advocacy for nurse‐driven protocol and IUC removal reminder were considered as facilitators.

Catheter‐associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) is a common complication associated with indwelling urinary catheters, frequently used in healthcare settings. Nurses play a critical role in preventing CAUTI, as they are often responsible for inserting, maintaining and removing urinary catheters. Therefore, it is important to comprehensively assess nurses' level of knowledge about CAUTIs and the variables that influence their application of best practices and recommendations for preventing these infections. The PRISMA principles were used to conduct a literature search for relevant research publications across several online databases (Web of Science, PubMed, MEDLINE and Scopus). The quality of these studies was evaluated using the Mixed Methods Appraisal Tool. There were 397 research articles, however only 21 articles were included after the screening. The majority of participants possessed diplomas ranging from 3% to 88.2%. In addition, the percentage of nurses with bachelor's degree's ranges from 11.80% to 100%. Moreover, 23.90% of registered nurses hold a master's degree. Most nurses had between 1 and 5 and more than 5 years of experience. Nurses held good/adequate and average knowledge and practices regarding prevention and control of CAUTIs. Furthermore, age, gender, work experience, professional experience, in‐service training, CAUTI prevention guidelines, time, equipment, personnel availability and work unit were all identified barriers. While continuing/in‐service education and self‐guided modules served as facilitators for the prevention of CAUTIs. Meanwhile, studies were found of good methodological quality. Improving nurses' knowledge and practice towards preventing CAUTI is crucial to reducing the prevalence of the infection and improving patient outcomes. Implementing evidence‐based interventions can help bridge the gap in knowledge and practice among nurses, ultimately leading to better patient care and outcomes.

Introduction. Nosocomial infections are an integral part of health care services, posing a threat to both patients and medical staff. The duty and role of nursing staff is to prevent nosocomial infections in every hospitalized person. Material and Methodology. The study involved 635 nurses working in various surgical and conservative wards. The technique used was the author’s questionnaire, which contained 30 questions and was divided into three components. Results. The level of knowledge among the surveyed nurses was at a sufficient level for more than half of the total tested population, and its level was influenced by two variables: the specialization held and the level of education. Nurses working in medical wards have a higher level of knowledge in the area of basic concepts related to nosocomial infections, and people who use specialist medical literature and participate in specialist courses have a sufficient level of knowledge. The shortest time since the last training results in a higher level of knowledge and a higher level of knowledge in the area covering the basic concepts of nosocomial infections. The most frequently selected issues on which nurses would like to expand their knowledge were post-exposure procedures and methods of monitoring nosocomial infections. Conclusions. The knowledge of the nursing staff in the field of nosocomial infections is diverse, and its main determinants are specialization, education, and age. A sufficient level of knowledge among the respondents is conditioned primarily by the use of specialist literature and participation in specialist courses, which determine both the scope and area of knowledge on nosocomial infections.
