Rehabilitation Approach After Surgical Repair of Spontaneous Bilateral Quadriceps Tendon Rupture in a Healthy Mason

Abstract: Quadriceps tendon rupture is a rare lesion, occurring most frequently in males older than 60 yrs after a fall or trauma and associated with systemic diseases and risk factors. Bilateral injury is even more uncommon and disabling. The authors report a case of spontaneous bilateral quadriceps tendon rupture, nonsimultaneous (8 days apart), in a healthy 54-yr-old black male mason, that may be work related. The patient was included in a 6-mo rehabilitation program after surgical repair. Pain control and gait reacq… Show more

“…Because the hip fractures were replaced by full weight-bearing THA, the rehabilitation of the quadriceps tendons can be carried out without further restrictions, considering the above-mentioned movement limitations of the hip joint. Complete rehabilitation with the return-to-sports activities may take as long as 6 months [46][47][48] .…”

“…The current literature does not focus on the rehabilitation after quadriceps tendon tears. There is no consensus on when to initiate knee mobilization or weight bearing, with a high heterogeneity about full weight bearing timing and stairs climbing (12). Up to now, early rehabilitation is being tested also Quadriceps Tendon Tears Rehabilitation in basic science studies, it seems that early passive motion after surgical treatment of ruptured tendons improves the healing process and enhances tendon tensile strength, and gives a greater joint mechanics when compared to immobilization (13)(14)(15).…”
