A variety of theoretical approaches, from the individual to ecological levels, was applied to the following clinical case in order to understand why a five-year-old boy demonstrated sexual behavior. Inappropriate sexual behavior in children is presented as symptomatic of problems in intrapersonal and interpersonal boundaries, relationship capabilities, and superego consolidation. The case material emphasizes that only when the child is helped to stop his sexual acting out can he access the sources of his emotional distress. The theoretical underpinnings that are relevant to this case will be shown as instrumental in the therapy of this child and his family. By integrating theory with practice, we hope to highlight this sensitive and prevalent issue as well as aid in the early identification and treatment of sexually problematic behavior.

Introduction: Regulatory disorders (RDs) are manifested by sensorimotor, sleep, feeding and adaptation abnormalities in the first three years of life, which seem to indicate future child development problems. There is evidence that RDs are related to attention, learning and behavioral problems that are observed at school age. Therefore, it is important to invest in resources that enable their early detection. The objective of this study was to describe the process of creating a questionnaire to detect atypical behavior suggestive of RDs, among 6 to 12-month-old infants. Method: The instrument was developed in two stages: (a) planning and constructing the test and (b) content validity examination through an expert panel consisting of researchers and professionals with recognized experience in the field. Results: The data indicated that the topic is relevant and that, according to the scores from the panel, the items in the questionnaire are easily observed (96.8%), clearly written (94.5%), assess important aspects of behavior (89.6%) and can potentially detect atypical behavior in 6 to 12-month-old infants (85.4%). Conclusion: Based on this study, the items were reviewed, resulting in a questionnaire with 50 items that will be applied experimentally in future work. It is expected that the questionnaire will be useful for early detection of problems that affect a great number of children.

The objective of the current study was to examine the effects of a brief Mediational Intervention for Sensitizing Caregivers (the MISC-SP) designed to enhance the quality of mothers' interaction with their toddlers who have sensory processing disorders (SPD). The basic assumption was that quality parent-child interactions can serve as a protective factor moderating the potential negative effects of toddlers' sensory processing and regulation difficulties on their development. The effects of the intervention were compared to those of another intervention designed to enhance children's sensory functioning (the SI group) and to a control group receiving no intervention. Participants were 86 toddlers (12-18 months old) with SPD and their mothers, who were randomly assigned to the aforementioned three research groups. Following the intervention period, mothers in the MISC-SP group showed more sensitive behavior, supported their toddlers' communication behavior better, and used teaching behaviors more appropriately than did mothers in the two other groups.
