“…The studies carried out on mice [34] and sheep [31] also reported the stimulating effect of LPS on IL-1R1 mRNA. However, the other studies suggested the inhibitory effect of LPS on IL-1R1 gene expression in the pituitary [35, 36], In the present study observed elevation of sheep IL-1R1 mRNA does not have to be an effect of direct action of LPS on pituitary cells. It could be caused by stress of inflammatory response.…”

“…Although the receptors for IL-l jS and IL-6 have also been demonstrated in the rodent anterior pituitary [41][42][43][44][45], our present data strongly suggest that the direct action of the cytokines on the pituitary may not be important in inducing the early, peak phase of ACTH response to LPS. It has been repeatedly shown that LPS itself is without effect on CRH [46,47] and arginine vasopressin [47] release from rat hypothalamic fragments in vitro.…”

“…The increment of IL-1 receptors by LPS was further supported utilizing a [ 125 I]IL-1ß binding assay. We and others have previously shown that IL-1 binding was decreased after LPS treatment in various murine brain and peripheral tissues [9,[13][14][15]. The present results clearly demonstrate that the decrease of IL-1 receptors in vivo is not due to a direct effect of LPS since IL-1 receptors are increased in AtT-20 cells in vitro while available receptors in vivo are decreased followed by LPS treatment.…”

“…We and others have previously shown that IL-1 binding was decreased after LPS treatment in the mouse in the various brain and peripheral tissues [9,[13][14][15]. It has recently been reported that a single injection of LPS increases type I IL-1 receptor (IL-1RI) mRNA levels in the whole brain, cerebral cortex, spleen [16] and liver [17].…”
