Regulation of fuel metabolism during exercise in hypopituitarism with growth hormone-deficiency (GHD)

Abstract: A reduced availability of FFA during a 2-hour aerobic exercise and a reduced fat oxidation at the end of exercise may contribute to the decreased exercise capacity in GHD patients. Catecholamines and cortisol do not compensate for the lack of the lipolytic action of GH in patients with GHD.

“…On the other hand, FT will stimulate the hypothalamus to release GH which is found in the body's accumulated stress during exercise (Devesa, 2021). GH works when resting from sports activities and at night (Zueger et al, 2016). GH is known to influence the development of adipose tissue and other functions, namely as a therapeutic indication for people who are overweight (Kopchick et al, 2020).…”

“…On the other hand, IUGR disrupted the neurodevelopment processes (proliferation, migration, and maturation) [17][18][19][20]. IUGR/GHD can cause fetal small for gestational age (SGA) [21] and increase the risk of cardiovascular, renal, visual, and mental diseases [22]; diabetes mellitus/obesity (increase in fat mass) [23,24]; metabolic inflammation [25]; liver dysfunction [26]; mitochondrial imbalance (impair oxygen transport capacity) [27]; or immune problems [28,29]. Moreover, GHD can delay the development and maturation of the male reproductive system [30] and the female reproductive system [31,32].…”
