Regulating access to SMIL formatted pay-per-view movies

Abstract: XML [15] has become a standard format for information that moves within the World Wide Web. Previous work in securing XML documents concentrated mainly on textual documents. Those proposals are ineffective in the context of multimedia, which mostly comprises of some sensible combination of images, text, audio, and video. As multimedia constitutes a significant component of the traffic within the Internet, it requires to be secured. We propose an access control model and an encryption mechanism that enforces ac… Show more

“…Moreover, our proposal leaves space for further work. Other inspiring approaches [14], [24] enforce client-based access control to XML. Indeed, in [14] and [24], the document is encrypted at the server side and decrypted at the client side.…”

“…Other inspiring approaches [14], [24] enforce client-based access control to XML. Indeed, in [14] and [24], the document is encrypted at the server side and decrypted at the client side. The input of their system is then XML data and the output is also XML data, while in our approach both the input and output is an XML query.…”

“…The process of retrieval without losing the sense of continuity and synchronization needs better techniques and algorithms which all of the above models do not completely address. Kodali et al [KW02,KWJ03,KFW03] propose three different models for enforcing different security paradigms. A release control for SMIL formatted multimedia objects for pay-per-view movies on the Internet that enforces DAC is described in [KW02].…”

A release control for SMIL formatted multimedia objects for pay-per-view movies on the Internet that enforces DAC is described in [KW02]. The cinematic structure consisting of acts, scenes, frames of an actual movies are written as a SMIL document without losing the sense of a story.…”
