Regression models for intercity auto directional travel demand

Abstract: Most of the modeling techniques of travel demand estimation for intercity travel were developed in industrialized countries. Hence, very few attempts were made in developing ones, mainly, due to the non availability of the proper data since the cost of nation wide travel surveys is high. The aim of this paper is to identify and select the main variables which affect the intercity auto directional travel demand and to develop models to predict it. The case of the five prefectures of East Macedonia and Thrace -Th… Show more

“…The input of the questionnaire into the computer, the data processing, the construction of Origin-Destination tables and the followed procedure, until the formulation of the final Origin-Destination table (the Passengers-Year table), have been done with the methodology, described in details, in our previous paper Varagouli et al [26] and will not be discussed here. Tables 1 and 2 Tables 1 and 2 (at the end of the paper) have been constructed using: (i) the final Table (Passengers-Year) which presents the extrapolated number of passengers on a year basis travelling by private car that have been counted during the roadside interviews in July and December 1989, in the intersection of the arterial road next to the river Strymona's bridge, and (ii) the rest of the data for processing were collected from the corresponding transport organizations (KTEL, OSE, etc.).…”
