Registration of ‘Vision 40’ Wheat

Abstract: United States with a high-yielding, high-value, specialty wheat cultivar. Vision 40 also purveys to millers and bakers in the eastern region a HRW wheat cultivar for the production of bread products. Producers can benefi t from the differentially higher price paid for HRW versus soft red winter (SRW) wheat, and millers can benefi t from lower grain transportation costs afforded by sourcing locally grown HRW wheat. Vision 40 was the fourth highest yielding HRW wheat entry averaged over 2 yr of the Uniform Bread… Show more

“…LCS Compass was evaluated with 45 other entries over 18 diverse environments in the 2013 USDA–ARS UBWT (Table 2). The average grain yield of LCS Compass (4609 kg ha −1 ) over locations was similar to those of HRW wheat cultivars Vision 30 (4697 kg ha −1 ) and ‘Vision 40’ (4643 kg; ha −1 ; PI 661154; Hall et al, 2011b) and the overall trial mean (4510 kg ha −1 ). Average grain volume weight of LCS Compass (73.5 kg hL −1 ) was similar to HRW wheat check NuEast (73.2 kg hL −1 ) but significantly ( P < 0.05) higher than the other soft and hard wheat checks.…”

“…Average plant height of LCS Wizard (88 cm) is similar to Vision 30 (87 cm) and 14 cm shorter than Vision 45 (102 cm). Straw strength (0 = erect to 9 = completely lodged) of LCS Wizard (1.0) is very good, being most similar to that (1.2) of ‘Vision 40’ (PI 661154; Hall et al, 2011b) and better than that (2.4) of Vision 30 (Table 1).…”

“…In Virginia, spike emergence (days from 1 January) of Vision 45 (126 d) is 1 d later than ‘Soissons’ (PI 573744) and 3 d later than ‘Vision 40’ (PI 661154, Hall et al, 2011b) (Table 1). Average plant height of Vision 45 (102 cm) is 10 cm taller than Vision 40 and 15 cm taller than Vision 30.…”
