Registration of ‘Rampart’ Wheat

Abstract: Registration of 'Rampart' Wheat Rampart, a hard red winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivar (Reg. no. CV-845, P1593889) with tolerance to damage caused by wheat stem sawfly (Cephus cinctus Norton), was developed and released by the Montana Agricultural Experiment Station in 1996. Rampart resulted from an FS selection from the cross 'Lew'/'TiberV/'Redwin'. Lew is the source of sawfly resistance (1). Rampart was evaluated as MTS92042 in Montana Preliminary, Intrastate, and Off-Station yield nurseries from 1… Show more

“…These cultivars were Norstar (CItr 17735) (Grant, 1980), BigSky (PI 619166) (Bruckner et al, 2003), Morgan (USDA-AMS, PVPO, 1997) (PI 599336), Rampart (PI 593889) (Bruckner et al, 1997), and Neeley (CItr 17860) (Sunderman, 1983). The criteria included plant height, winter hardiness, popularity among growers, presence of the sawfly resistance trait, developmental rate, and emission of the attractant (Z)-3-hexenyl acetate.…”

“…al., 1997]/UT190 [1993 Western Regional Hard Red Winter Wheat Nursery entry 3, complex pedigree]). MTS0359 is an unreleased solid‐stem line of the pedigree ‘Rampart’ (PI 593889; Bruckner et al, 1997)/‘Mironovskaya 61’ (PI 592062). Spur resulted from a marker‐assisted backcross program for stem solidness conducted from 2003 to 2006 at Montana State University using two simple sequence repeat markers for solid‐stem genes located on wheat chromosomes 2B ( cdf233 ) and 3B ( gwm340 ; Cook et al, 2004).…”
