Registration of ‘ND VitPro’ hard red spring wheat

Abstract: ND VitPro' (Reg. no. CV-1194, PI 682660) is a hard red spring wheat (HRSW, Triticum aestivum L.) developed at North Dakota State University and released by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station in 2017. It was tested as experimental line ND825 and released because of improved straw strength as well as strong disease resistance and end-use quality. ND VitPro is moderately resistant to stem rust, leaf rust, and Fusarium head blight. The name ND VitPro was chosen due to its high vitreous kernel percent… Show more

“…Seedling stem rust response was assessed each year under greenhouse conditions with a composite of races, TPMKC, QTHJC, RTQQC, QFCSC, MCCFC, QCCJB, and an unknown race from isolate named A‐46) in the manner described by Green et al. (2022). Seedlings were scored for susceptibility or resistance at the two‐leaf stage based on the host infection type and pustule size, where highly susceptible reactions with large pustules were deemed highly susceptible and those experimental lines were discarded.…”

“…Plant color is yellow–green to green in the boot stage, with a recurved, twisted flag leaf. It has an average spike emergence of 52.3 days after planting, (Table 1) which is 0.5 days before ‘Linkert’ (PI 672164, Anderson et al., 2018a) and 1.2 days after ‘ND VitPro’ (Green et al., 2022). It has a mid‐dense head which is inclined and tapered and erect at maturity.…”

“…MN‐Torgy averaged 2.01 on the 0–9 scale. Only Boost, ‘ND‐VitPro’ (Green et al., 2022) (1.49), and Lang‐MN (1.53) had significantly better ratings. Overall, MN‐Torgy's reaction to BLS under field conditions was rated as moderately resistant.…”

“…The two cultivars used in this experiment were ND Genesis and AAC Synergy, which are two-row malting barley cultivars recommended by the American Malting T A B L E 2 Average air temperature and total precipitation at two sites in North Dakota are based on 30-year average and their departure from the average for each growing season, as reported by the North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network (NDAWN, 2023). (Keene et al, 2021;Ransom et al, 2019Ransom et al, , 2020. Each experimental unit was 2.4 m wide by 12.2 m long and plots were organized in a randomized complete block design with a split-plot arrangement, with cultivar as the main plot and N rate as the sub-plots.…”
