These mutants, which have height reductions from 18 to 24% of their tall parents, provide breeding sources of semidwarfism, nonallelic to the worldwide semidwarfing gene sd 1, in tropical japonica germplasm adapted to the southern USA and similar climatic areas.…”

Francis was tested in the Arkansas Rice Performance Trials (ARPT) and the Cooperative Uniform Regional Rice Nursery (URRN) during 1999–2001 as entry RU9901081 (RU number indicates Cooperative Uniform Regional Rice Nursery; 99 indicates year entered; 01 indicates Stuttgart, AR; and 081 indicates entry number).…”

Registration of ‘Ahrent’ Rice

“…Ahrent is similar in maturity to ‘Cocodrie’ (Linscombe et al, 2000). Ahrent, like ‘LaGrue’ (Moldenhauer et al, 1994) and ‘Newbonnet’ (Johnston et al, 1984), has greater straw strength, an indicator of lodging resistance, than Katy, Kaybonnet or ‘Drew’ (Moldenhauer et al, 1998). On a relative straw strength scale (0 = very strong straw, 9 = very weak straw) Ahrent, Drew, Newbonnet, Katy, Kaybonnet, and Lemont rated 3, 4, 4, 5, 5, and 1, respectively.…”
