Regionalization of geographical space according to selected topographic factors in reference to spatial distribution of precipitation: application of artificial neural networks in GIS

Abstract: In this paper, the regionalization of geographical space according to selected topographic factors and the spatial distribution of precipitation is discussed. The model takes into account qualitative and quantitative data describing the conditions associated with the studied precipitation. In the modelling, data mining methods including data clustering methods for agglomeration and artificial neural networks for classification have been used. The reason for their use was the classification of the area due to c… Show more

“…While computer codes allow a much more language-based approach, a modeler still needs to set various values for parameters and thresholds, etc. and this is where existing behavioral theories or existing empirical findings can be of use (Badham et al, 2018; Silva et al, 2020). Good examples of this include Batty (2013)'s use of Coleman (1964)'s theory of collective action to model the design of urban systems using Markov chains as well as Ioannides (2013)'s illustration of how the modeling of social interaction in cities can use social network theory, urban economics, and spatial econometrics.…”

“…While starting with a set of rules using a deductive approach, the model can then generate simulated data that requires analysis by induction, which is called generative social science (Epstein, 1999). Second, these approaches offer a platform that allows the use of both quantitative and qualitative data and methods based on equations and language-based rules (Yang and Gilbert, 2008;Millington and Wainwright, 2017;Bac-Bronowicz and Grzempowski, 2018;D'Autilia and Hetman, 2018). “…The Śl ąskie voivodeship has specific functional, spatial, and topographic conditions. A large share of single-family housing areas results in significant areas with high air pollution emissions [59]. The topographical conditions of the region also cause poor air exchange in some areas due to the presence of mountain areas and valleys and basins (e.g., the Żywiec Basin) in the southern part of the voivodeship.…”

“…In traditional geographical space, map as an important carrier of describing geographical phenomenon, which has been an indispensable tool for operational command since ancient times [16]. The traditional method of data visualization analysis is to draw corresponding graphs to make people better understand the data.…”
