The characterization of the moisture flows over South America, with a special focus on the Southeast Brazil (SEB), was performed through the analysis of 21 Earth System Models (ESMs) belonging to the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) for the present climate (1971-2000) and projections for the late 21st century (2071-2100) using a scenario of high radiative forcing (RCP 8.5). The results show that the ESMs simulate well the spatial distribution of the flow and the divergence of moisture in the present climate, when compared with the 20CRv2c reanalysis, although some biases have been identified. In relation to the magnitude of the moisture flow, the models underestimate the moisture convergence mainly on the central, south and southeast regions of South America. On SEB, the simulations show that the main sources of moisture for the region come from the north and east edges, confirming the contribution of moisture from the Amazon Basin and the South Atlantic Ocean. Climate change projections indicate an increase in moisture flow across South America, and regions of moisture convergence (divergence) in the present climate are projected to be even more convergent (divergent) in the future climate. In addition, the moisture flow over the SEB also showed to be more intensified on all lateral edges, as well as the moisture balance. This result is consistent with some studies on projections of climate change towards the end of the 21st century, which indicate that there will be an intensification of meteorological systems such as the Low Level Jet and the South American Monsoon System, contributing to the increase of moisture transport to the SEB region.

Este estudo tem o intuito de avaliar um evento extremo ocorrido no estado do Ceará. Grandes transtornos à sociedade foram causados, como deslizamentos de terras, inundações, alagamentos, entre outras perdas materiais. O evento consistiu em dois sistemas atuando simultaneamente, um Vórtice Ciclônico de Altos Níveis (VCAN) e uma Ondas de Leste, sendo que o segundo atuou em um mês atípico, caracterizando uma ocasião rara. Segundo dados da Fundação Cearense de Meteorologia e Recursos Hídricos (Funceme), nos dias que ocorreu o evento, a chuva na região metropolitana superou a média história do mês, chegando a 148 mm. Desta forma, é importante obter uma previsão mais precisa evitando maiores transtornos à sociedade. Sabe-se que de maneira geral, modelos regionais ou globais apresentam deficiência em simular a variável precipitação. Esta dificuldade geralmente está associada as parametrizações dos modelos e também aos processos físicos e dinâmicos, uma vez que, a variável precipitação não é contínua no tempo e no espaço. No entanto, para as variáveis de vento (u, v) e umidade específica (q) que são variáveis necessárias para o cálculo da convergência de umidade, os modelos conseguem ter um melhor desempenho. Assim, com intuito de estudar os possíveis sistemas meteorológicos, realizou-se simulações numéricas utilizando três diferentes conjuntos de dados: Climate Prediction Centre (CPC), Reanálise do National Center for Enviromental Prediction/National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCEP/NCAR) e Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (RAMS). Os principais resultados mostraram que a partir das simulações do RAMS, percebeu-se núcleos de convergência de umidade associadas a chuvas intensas no Ceará. Indicando ser uma opção interessante para suporte na previsão do tempo.

A observação de distribuição espacial e temporal do regime de chuvas da região Nordeste do Brasil (NEB) torna-se um desafio devido sua grande variabilidade no tempo e no espaço. Durante o período de 25 a 29 de maio de 2017 foram registrados casos de chuvas intensas na parte leste do NEB, principalmente entre os estados de Alagoas e de Pernambuco. Desta forma, objetivo deste trabalho consistiu em verificar a contribuição do fluxo de umidade associada ao evento de precipitação severa ocorrido na região leste do NEB Especificamente, pretende-se averiguar as características física e sinótica de referido evento. Para tanto, foram utilizados dados de estações pluviométricas automáticas do Centro Nacional de Monitoramento e Alertas de Desastres Naturais (CEMADEN), imagens de satélite GOES-13 e reanálises pertencentes ao European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), do conjunto de reanálise ERA-5. Os resultados obtidos desta pesquisa conseguiram mostrar que o transporte de umidade integrado na vertical sobre a costa leste do NEB foi bastante intenso durante o período em que o sistema de precipitação esteve no estágio de maturação.Palavras-chave: NEB ERA-5; Chuva intensa; Transporte de umidade. Contribution of moisture flows in heavy rainfall event occurred in eastern Northeast Brazil in May 2017: A case study A B S T R A C TThe observation of spatial and temporal distribution of the rainfall regime of the Northeast of Brazil (NEB) becomes a challenge due to its great variability in time and space. In the period from May 25 to 29, 2017, heavy rains occurred in the eastern part of the NEB, mainly between the states of Alagoas and Pernambuco. Thus, the objective of this work was to verify the contribution of the moisture flow associated to the event of severe precipitation occurred in the eastern region of the NEB. Specifically, it is intended to ascertain the physical and synoptic characteristics of said event. In order to do so, we used data from automatic rain gauges of the National Center for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Alarms (CEMADEN), GOES-13 satellite images and reanalysis from the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) ERA-5. The main results showed that the vertical moisture transport presented strong nuclei of moisture convergence in the Atlantic Ocean towards the study area, when the precipitation system was in the maturation stage.Keywords: Transport of moisture; Synoptic analysis; Extreme event; ERA-5.
