The role of transport infrastructure, especially railways, in shaping a nation's socio-economic and cultural dynamics is of paramount importance. The present research delves into the profound influence of the railway network on Iran's regional transformation, from its inception to present times. An in-depth historical evaluation uncovers the genesis and expansion of the Iranian railway system, linking it intricately with pivotal junctures in the nation's trajectory. Emphasis is placed on regions undergoing substantial developmental shifts, attributable to enhanced rail connectivity, offering distinct examples of varied growth paradigms. Economic repercussions manifest as interregional trade augmentation, resurgence of industries, and alterations in employment landscapes, thereby positing railways as an integral component of Iran's economic blueprint. Concurrently, an exhaustive scrutiny of socio-cultural realms underscores railways' pivotal role in fostering intercultural exchanges and expediting urbanisation trends. From an environmental perspective, the sustainability merits of rail transport are illuminated, accentuating the increasing pertinence of ecological considerations in railway's prospective expansion. Through meticulous case studies, a comparative narrative emerges between areas endowed with rail connectivity and those situated in relative isolation. The objective is to elucidate railways as instigators of transformative shifts. This study culminates with projections grounded in potential technological advancements poised to reshape Iran's railway infrastructure and the ensuing regional implications. Findings underscore railways' monumental impact on Iran's socio-economic fabric, illuminating their potential as change agents and offering invaluable insights for global infrastructure strategising.

Currently, it is necessary to support not only public passenger transport at the expense of individual car transport but also to ensure the modal split of goods from road transport to railway transport. Moreover, it is important to modernize the railway infrastructure, especially hubs and other important railway stations in important settlements and big cities. Therefore, it is necessary to constantly invest in railway lines as well as railway stations. The contribution deals with the determination of the methodology for the evaluation of railway stations in freight transport based on current scientific publications and the AHP method. Its main goal is to determine the size of the peak on the network-railway station on the infrastructure manager’s railway network. One of the benefits is the subsequent determination of the next procedure from the given peak in terms of operation, considering the economic complexity of the entire procedure. The methodology is preceded by an extensive analysis of input data in Slovakia and abroad. This methodology defines the parameters or factors that influence decisions for a particular railway freight station. Subsequently, based on the proposed methodology, a practical application is also developed, within which four railway stations on the ŽSR network are evaluated. In a broader sense, the contribution also points to improving the quality of railway infrastructure in cities.

This study presents a comprehensive evaluation of environmental susceptibility associated with the development of the Belgrade-Novi Sad Railway Route in Serbia. Fostering socio-economic growth through transportation infrastructure necessitates an acute awareness of potential ecological implications, a nexus often overlooked in the haste of progress. Accordingly, a broad spectrum of environmental parameters such as land use, air and noise pollution, water resources, and biodiversity were systematically assessed. The employment of Habitat Equivalency Analysis facilitated the discernment of potential environmental detriments linked with the railway project. Significant findings from this investigation offer critical insights for policymakers, urban planners, and environmental conservationists, thus enriching the understanding of ecological consequences attached to the expansion of the specified railway corridor. These findings, serving as a tool for informed decision-making, are pivotal in striving towards a balanced approach between the exigencies of transportation infrastructure enhancement and the indispensable goal of environmental preservation. Ultimately, the goal of this study is to promote an enhanced understanding of the reciprocal relationship between infrastructure development and environmental impact, thereby contributing to the ongoing discourse on sustainable practices beneficial for current and future generations.
