Abstract: Pain management in neonates and infants has many unique and important facets, particularly in former preterm infants. Untreated pain and surgical stress in neonates are associated with myriad negative sequelae, including deleterious inflammatory, autonomic, hormonal, metabolic, and neurologic effects.
