Regio- and stereoselective Diels-Alder reaction of diphenyl 5-methylhexa-1,3,4-trien-3-yl phosphine oxide with N-(4-substituted-phenyl)maleimides and maleic anhydride

Dedicated to Professor Marko Kirilov from Sofia University, Bulgaria on the occasion of his 90 th anniversary Abstract Regio-and stereoselective Diels-Alder reaction of diphenyl 5-methylhexa-1,3,4-trien-3-yl phosphine oxide 1 with N-(4-substituted-phenyl)maleimides or maleic anhydride and the formation of a series of the 5-(diphenylphosphinoyl)-4-isopropylidene-2-(4-substituted-phenyl)-3a,4,7,7a-tetrahydroisoindole-1,3-diones 5a-g and the 5-(diphenylphosphinoyl)-4-isopropylidene-3a,4,7,7a-tetrahydroisobenzofuran-1,3-dione 3 respectively is described.
