Regge phenomenology in π0 and η photoproduction

Abstract: The γN → π 0 N and γN → ηN reactions at photon beam energies above 4 GeV are investigated within Regge models. The models include t-channel exchanges of vector (ρ and ω) and axial vector (b1 and h1) mesons. Moreover, Regge cuts of ρP, ρf2, ωP, and ωf2 are investigated. A good description of differential cross sections and polarization observables at photon beam energies from 4 to 15 GeV can be achieved.

“…This may provide a peak structure or a dip, generally a Fano resonance, depending on the interference. 1 Actually, an enhancement of the differential cross section of the γp → ηp reaction was observed just below the η p threshold in experiments [56,57], which was claimed to be attributable to an S 11 resonance in their analyses. This might imply the signal of the η p bound state.…”

“…The major background under the peak from η → e + e − γ decays was found to be from the reaction γp → π 0 π 0 p. The MC simulation of this reaction was carried out in the same way as reported in Ref. [46]. Although this background is smooth in the region of the η mass and cannot mimic an η → e + e − γ peak, its MC simulation was used to optimize the signalto-background ratio and to parametrize the background under the signal.…”
