Regenerative Heat Treatment of Prolonged Exploited Heat Resistant Steel

Abstract

Possibilities of regenerative heat treatment after prolonged exploitation under service conditions of low alloyed Cr-Mo-V cast steels are reported in published investigations. Considering this assumption that post service regenerative heat treatment could change microstructure and improve decreased mechanical properties after prolonged exploitation, heat resistant steamline steel 14MoV6-3 is investigated in this paper. Microstructure of post service regenerative heat treated steel 14MoV6-3 implicitly indicated increase of strength properties, but not toughness properties at same time. In order to investigate impact toughness properties, such as a crack initiation and propagation energy, following temperatures were selected: 20°C, 150°C, 400°C and 540°C (service temperature) for virgin, exploited and regenerative heat treated steamline steel 14MoV6-3. Further investigations related to possibilities of post service regeneration of exploited steel 14MoV6-3 should be directed to more adequate heat treatment cycle.
