The research deals with the cultural heritage of the old city of Mosul and the importance of conserving it. It aims to measure the extent of the changes in the social and physical structure due to the war. it comes from a doctoral dissertation on the concept of conservation. The research adopts a descriptive-analytical approach to collecting and analyzing information from the site visit, conducting a field survey represented by personal interviews with families, and conducting a questionnaire prepared for this purpose. In addition to documenting a heritage house, they were elected according to specific conditions and collected data on the physical structure. The research concluded by diagnosing many criteria related to the social structure and measuring the extent of the changes that occurred in it, in addition to discussing the impact of changes in the social structure, extracting their repercussions on the physical structure, and measuring the extent of the changes in the architectural characteristics that occurred in the heritage houses. It was concluded that the change in the social structure due to wars and the lack of awareness of methods of architectural preservation of cultural heritage leads to changes in the physical structure of residential homes, which in turn is reflected in the city's cultural identity.

The theme of architectural reconstruction has gained significant prominence within the discipline of architecture, intersecting with the increasing complexity of contemporary events, especially complex socio-political scenarios including deliberate city destruction, often referred to as urbicide. Preservation strategies that safeguard the memory and values embedded in places have become imperative to protect this urban tangible and intangible heritage. This study explores the application of architectural reconstruction in the post-war context of Mosul (Iraq) dealing mainly with the selection of traces, combining a strategy based half on physical evidence and half on the reconstruction of memory devices, and intertwining them into an operative procedure hopefully supporting urban reconstruction. The study’s results indicate that architectural interventions focused on revitalizing these symbolic spaces play a pivotal role in reconstituting the inhabitants’ habits and sense of community in Mosul. The projects, including the Souq and the Great Mosque and districts, successfully address various challenges, including the harmonious fusion of tradition and modernization, the delicate balance between memory and oblivion, and the careful negotiation between reconstruction and restoration.

The recent technological development in many fields has made a significant contribution to the reconstruction of a historical buildings. The matter becomes complicated when the buildings are destroyed, and it is required to collect as many different sources of information as possible. The research problem lies in the absence of studies on reconstructing the lost historical landmarks in the old Mosul city in an interactive 4D modelling. This study aims to develop a strategy to reconstruct historical cultural landmarks in an interactive digital way, based on the collection and integration of multiple sources of information, in addition to an attempt to extrapolate the lost elements based on similar data and various available information, and all this using available software techniques to create interactive environments. To produce documents that can be used in the process of restoring the real origin as an advanced engineering document, used for future periodic maintenance and preservation purposes. The study seeks to reconstruct the military Qishla building in the completely destroyed in Mosul, as a case study, using multiple tools and techniques, in parallel with the techniques Modern digital, and various CAD programs for engineering and parametric drawing and Ar-media augmented reality app.
