Refractory compounds of basic composition for the monolithin lining of steel-teeming ladles

Abstract

Treatment of steel in steel-teeming ladles requires the development of new or the improvement of traditional refractory materials.It is known that the processes of desulfurization and dephosphorization of metal in the ladle occur more effectively if it is lined with basic refractories.Since in the USSR up to 30% of steel is teemed through ladles with a monolithic lining, it is desirable to use basic materials for preparation of it [1-5].The All-Union Refractory Institute has developed a production goal of 20,000 tons/yr of magnesia-spinellide compounds. An area for the production of these compounds in the No. 2 Shop of Panteleimonovka Refractory Plant has been designed. The area, built by the plant, was started up in 1988.The method for production of magnesia-spinellide compounds includes the use of periclase and chromitepowder of the existing production of the plant and also ground refractory clay of the Novoraisk deposit. The components of the compounds were mixed in a type 15326 M batch bowl-shaped mixer (load 1 ton). The compounds with a moisture content up to 2% were shipped to steel plants in rubberized cord containers.
