Reforming Performance and Visible Light Responsibility of Cr-Doped Prepared by Sol-Gel and Dip-Coating Method

Abstract: A Cr-doped film was prepared by sol-gel and dip-coating method and used as the photocatalyst for reforming under the visible light. The ratio of amount of Cr added to amount of Ti in sol solution (R) varied from 0 to 100 wt%. The total layer number of Cr-doped film (N) coated was up to 7. The reforming performance with the Cr-doped film was evaluated by illuminating under a Xe lamp with or without ultraviolet (UV) light. The concentration of CO which was a product from reforming was maximized for  wt% whenNequ… Show more

“…Regarding product formation, extensive studies into the use of doped TiO 2 in CO 2 photocatalysis have been conducted using various metals such as chromium [152], copper [86,153], silver [154], platinum [91], palladium [155] and ruthenium [92]. Several primary products with their yields includes methane (4.8 molh-1 /g Ti -1 [91], methanol (2655 mol/g catal [86] and 4.12 mol/g catal [84] and formate (72.3ppm [92]) respectively have been obtained.…”

“…The photocatalytic performance of the Ag/TiO 2 was lower as compared to the Cu/TiO 2 owing to the vigorous affinity among the clusters of Ag and photoelectrons [ 75 ]. Nishimura et al [ 76 ] also fabricated the films of Cr-doped TiO 2 by using the sol-gel approach to improve the CO 2 reduction.…”

“…For visible light responsibility, Nishimura et al synthesized Cr-doped TiO 2 lm by the sol-gel and dip-coating methods. 159 They stated that a suitable percentage of metal doping on semiconductors improved catalytic activity, whereas excess percentages of dopant metal beyond the optimal level decreased the photocatalytic performances because of charge recombination. However, the H 2 generation rate was more advanced for Fedoped TiO 2 than Cr-doped TiO 2 because of avoiding the recombination in trapping both electrons and holes by Fe particles, whereas Cr can only trap one type of charge carrier.…”
