“…In groups, 24 hours micturition frequency and urgency incontinence, incontinence complaints were decreased and in terms of 24 hours micturition frequency, it was determined that reflexology is more effective than the foot massage [8]. In the randomize controlled study of SievNer and friends; reflexology was applied to Multiple Skleroz patients and in the group that received reflexology, it was determined that urinary symptoms decreased significantly [7], again in Hughes and friends study which was conducted with Multiple Skleroz patients, reflexology and placebo foot massage were applied to patients for ten weeks and in the evaluation results, it was determined that there was 33% improvement in muscular spasm and urgency symptoms [19].…”

“…When the effect of reflexology on overactive bladder examined, massage that applied on kidney and bladder with target organ effect, it increases perfusion and lowers muscle power and tonus, consequently, improvement on urinary symptoms was determined [7,8].Because of its effects which can be harmful has not been reported in the literature, it was stated that reflexology can be used as a non-invasive procedure in treatment of OABS which is a multidimensional problem. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of reflexology in women with OABS.…”

“…This finding is in harmony with Quattrin et al 2000) studies which revealed that reflexology massage improve physical activities (46,47,48,49,50) . Siev-Ner et al (2003) stated that when reflexology massage was applied 3 times for 2 weeks, it was noticed that by the end of the first week, that there was significant improvement in doing anything during the day, doing things around the house and rearranged the entire house (42) . Moreover, Weerapong et al (2005) reported that reflexology massage stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system and evoke the relaxation response, enhance venous return, mobilize deep muscle tissue, the skin and subcutaneous tissue, increase local circulation, also it has reflex stimulation that decrease neuromuscular excitability, pain, muscle tension or spasm and break up any adhesions from old injuries (38) .…”

“…Another supporting study done by Xavier (2007) reported that reflexology massage improved sleep quality (41) . Siev-Ner et al (2003) pointed out that reflexology foot massage usually takes 3 to 4 sessions to see noticeable improvement (42) . They applied reflexology massage 3 times for 2 weeks and by the end of the first week, there was significant improvement in sleep quality.…”

“…By using the heel treatment as the control, an experimentally inert reflexology comparison can be achieved in which nonspecific effects such as the compassion of the therapist, the treatment environment, the act of lying supine, expectation of the receiver, and the relaxing effects of simple foot massage 19,20 would be equally present in both intervention and control. Therefore if the beat-to-beat hemodynamic status of either the liver or spleen organs were measured throughout the intervention and control treatment, and the experiment used reflexology-naive subjects in a randomized, double-blinded repeated measures study design, it should be possible to isolate and detect a specific treatment-related hemodynamic effect on the organ in question; a specific effect that should only be present at some point during the intervention (revealed by real-time measurement of the organ or organs of interest), quite distinct from nonspecific components that should be equally present in both, thereby resolving both the map inconsistency problem and providing a suitably robust experimental control.…”
