(1) Background: Our study explores the relationship between expected, perceived, and measured effects of botulinum toxin A (BoNT-A) treatment and saline (placebo) in children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP) in the calf muscles of 20 children and adolescents with cerebral palsy (CP), aged 4–15 years, using the Gross Motor Function Classification System (GMFCS) I–II. (2) Methods: A mixed methods parallel database design was used. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected at baseline and four weeks after treatment. The primary quantitative measure was gross energy cost (EC) during walking, obtained from a 5-Minute Walk Test (5MWT), while qualitative semi-structured interviews were performed with each parent and child/adolescent individually. (3) Results: Four weeks after treatment, we did not find any correspondence between expected, measured, and perceived effects. Interestingly, parental perceptions of treatment effects were more consistent than the measured outcomes. We also observed a connection between parental treatment expectations and perceived effects, often related to reduced energy expenditure. Children tended to view their parents as treatment experts and had fewer expectations and perceptions themselves. (4) Conclusions: These findings support the importance of child-centered care, which entails actively listening to children’s expectations and perceptions during the treatment process.

Introduction:In the municipal health service, demanding ethical challenges arise on a daily basis. It is advantageous to discuss these systematically. One measure that can be implemented to ensure that discussions are systematic is to establish ethics committees.Through a research project, four Norwegian municipalities received implementation support to establish ethics committees. The participating municipalities organized this work as local professional development projects and appointed two resource persons who were given central coordination and leadership roles. The same people also took roles as a leader and secretary of the ethics committees. The aim of the PhD project was to gain more knowledge about involved parties' experiences of participating in ethics discussions, and to study which key factors can influence establishment and operation of this ethics committees. Method:The research project has a qualitative design. 22 in-depth interviews have been conducted with healthcare personnel who approached the ethics committees with cases ("stakeholders"), six in-depth interviews with next-of-kin and three focus group interviews with resource persons in three different phases of the research project. In addition, five dialogue seminars were arranged with resource persons and researchers during the research period. The study also has an element of action research. The data material has been analyzed using a reflexive thematic content analysis.Result: Establishing municipal ethics committees is considered as useful, at both system and individual level. However, the establishment entailed a considerable amount of work and a great deal of responsibility for those who took on the role of resource person. At least two parties participated in the ethics discussions: Stakeholders, who were healthcare personnel, and ethics committee members. In some instances, next-of-kin also took part in ethics discussions, but no patients. Stakeholders and next-of-kin experienced that participating in ethics discussions gave them a great degree of support and security in demanding decisionmaking processes. The participants in the study learned that ethics discussions in the ethics committee gave increased competence, and that reflection on ethical issues contributed to better communication and interaction between those affected by the case. Å være åpen om alvorlig sykdom og død har blitt et normativt og moralsk imperativ. I Norge har den nye åpenheten fått synlig utløp gjennom flere populære dokumentarserier på statskanalen NRK. I artikkelen søker vi å forstå mer av fenomenet åpenhet, slik det spil- ler seg ut på TV og særlig knyttet til åpenhet om alvorlig sykdom og død. Vi redegjør for noen aktuelle teoretiske perspektiver på åpenheten, før vi beskriver og diskuterer hvordan åpenhet fremstilles i en episode fra NRK-serien Helene sjekker inn. Den aktuelle episoden er fra en hospiceavdeling. Et sentralt poeng fra vår analyse er at mens både NRK og hospi- cefilosofien argumenterer for betydningen av å være åpen om døden, kan personer som er i livets siste fase fortsatt ha behov for å skjerme seg fra døden som realitet. Gjennom språ- kbruk, kroppslige gester og aktive handlinger viser både pasienter og ansatte i episoden at åpenhet også har grenser og at døden ikke lar seg fullstendig avdekke, men fortsatt hviler i en form for ikke-viten.
