The modern formation of foreign language communicative competence in tourism students in the context of blended learning is a key issue for the effective organization of the educational process. The issue of using blended learning as a tool for improving the practical and professional skills of tourism students is subject to wide discussion, as it has many advantages and disadvantages. The proposed results of the study are aimed at improving the organization of the educational process, as well as creating the most effective means for the formation of foreign language communicative competence of tourism students. The study aims to conduct an analytical assessment of the theoretical aspects of the formation of foreign language communicative competence, as well as to find ways to practically develop it in future specialists. With the help of scientific research methods, the foundations of the functioning of universities are formed, taking into account the prospects of digital technologies and the needs of the tourism services market. The results of the article can be useful for improving the distribution of the educational process of educational institutions between traditional and distance learning. The article examines the components of foreign language communicative competence and their cultural, ethical, and semantic aspects as the main principles of professional communication of tourism professionals. The results of the study indicate the need to integrate the educational process into distance learning. However, the traditional form should not be excluded, as it can be useful for the development of verbal communication skills. The study is important from the point of view of theoretical peculiarities of the formation of foreign language communicative competence in tourism students.

Labour market modern requirements determine the need for high-quality language training for non-linguistic students, whose competitiveness is directly dependent on the level of foreign language proficiency. Teaching foreign languages shows that the use of various technologies requires a different approach to assessing students' learning activities. In this regard, the purpose of the study is to identify the impact of the use of alternative assessment of the students’ educational activities on the improvement of their foreign language communicative competence. The study involved 84 "Biology" and "Ecology" undergraduates of Vyatka State University. The following methods were used in the research: theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific literature on the research issue, observation, experimental training, questionnaire, analysis of quantitative and qualitative research results. Pearson's χ^2 test was used for the result statistical processing. The authors identified the following alternative assessment forms and methods: iPortfolio, We Create Activity, iLearn & Teach Project, Technical Report, Mock Job Interview. These forms and methods are approximated to the real situations of the professional sphere of future engineers. The results of the experiment showed that the number of students with a low level of foreign language communicative competence formation decreased from 40,5% to 17,9%, with an average level increased from 50% to 63,1%, with the high level increased from 9,5% to 19%. The estimated value of Pearson's χ2 statistics 11.308 falls within the zone of the significance of differences in the levels of formation of foreign language communicative competence. The significance of the study lies in the approach used "assessment as learning" to solve the problem of professionally oriented communicative competence formation. This approach ensured the student orientation to professional interests and created conditions for knowledge self-acquisition, increasing the student autonomy. In addition, it led to student awareness of the necessity to master a foreign language in relation to the professional training specifics.

Online teaching especially in the Covid-19 pandemic era was made a must. Education institutions shifted from face to face to online instruction. This shift raises the question to which type of writing instruction is preferred by English as a foreign language (EFL) students. Taking this into account, this study sort to reveal the perspectives of university students majoring in the English language teaching (ELT) department in a private university in North Cyprus with regard to their experiences of writing courses designed both in-class and online. During the online implementation of the course, the students were engaged in UZEBIM: a Moodle designed by the institution. To be able to achieve the aim of the study a qualitative research design was employed. Two semesters were allocated in which the first was taught face to face and the second online. Both courses employed the same methodology to teach writing. To collect data, semi-structured interviews were administered to 17 participants after the online implementation of the writing course. It was made evident from the results of the study that the majority of the students preferred online writing courses to in-class (face to face). The reasons behind their choices could be attributed to the students' motivation, working in their own time and pace, and having illegible hand writing.
