Refinements in biostratigraphy of the foraminiferal zone MFZ11 (late early Viséan, Mississippian) in the Cebeciköy Limestone (Ýstanbul Terrane, NW Turkey) and palaeogeographic implications

Abstract: The Cebeciköy Limestone from the Variscan flysch of the Ýstanbul Terrane is assigned to the foraminiferal MFZ11 zone (late early Viséan, formerly V2a). This zone is essentially the range zone of Uralodiscus rotundus. Additional bioevents are proposed for characterizing the upper part of this biozone (MFZ11B subzone): the LAD of Eoendothyranopsis and the FAD of Pararchaediscus and Conilidiscus. The majority of foraminifers and algae, belonging locally to MFZ11 are well-known, except for the following taxa: Issi… Show more

“…If the Neo-Tethys, as an oceanic spreading area, opened in the Middle Permian (see Sharland et al, 2001), the Cimmerian Continent sensu lato (more exactly the Extragondwanan Realm of Vachard, 1980) was individualized as an island or archipelago since at least the late Viséan (Vachard, 1980;Okuyucu et al, 2013) with the following constitutents: Sarakaya Terrane in Turkey, Alborz in Iran and Band-e Bayan in Afghanistan (Figures 20-21).…”

“…However, this latter species, which is a true Issinella as recently redescribed by Okuyucu et al (2013) (i.e., a tube with any irregularities, and randomly arranged laterals), entirely differs from Luteotubulus (the exact spelling of this taxon) and Zidella (see remarks in Vachard 1993). Nevertheless, we admit that Zidella minor Ivanova, 1988 could be an Issinella.…”

“…These numerous connections between Laurussia, Siberia and Perigondwana (Fig. 10) indicate that the three blocks were closely located and consequently the Tethys and Urals oceans were relatively narrow (e.g., Klapper and Johnson, 1980;Kalvoda, 2002;Yarahmadzahi and Vachard, 2013;Okuyucu et al, 2013;Krainer and Vachard, 2015).…”
