“…This improvement in SPA execution may shorten the operative time and reduce postoperative pain. For this reason needlescopic instruments have become important tools for expanding the indications for SILS in various fields of surgery [21]. In the present study, the mean operative time tended to be shorter in patients who underwent an SPA using a glove port with a percutaneous organ-holding device than in the commercial port patients, but this difference was not statistically significant.…”

“…Smaller incisions result in decreased incisional pain and reduced risk of complications such as port-site bleeding, infection, and herniation. Moreover, minimal scarring allows better cosmetic results [73]. On the other hand, narrow operative field, lower image quality due to lack of definition and reduced light transmission [16, 74], and blurred vision with the use of electrocautery [75] are almost unanimously reported to be the “Achilles' heel” of this technique and cause more stress for the surgeon especially when using 3 mm scopes.…”

“…8,9 Series of gastric resections, splenectomies, nephrectomies, hysterectomies, colon resections, and adrenalectomies demonstrated the safety and feasibility of needlescopic surgery. [12][13][14][15][16][17][18] We acknowledge some peculiarities and possible limitations of minilaparoscopic instruments, such as higher susceptibility to bending, which results in increased difficulty when dissection is carried out on a very hard fibrous tissue. Moreover, the limited variety of 3-mm dissectors with effective bipolar coagulation can make unroofment of the ureter more challenging when performed using needlescopic instruments.…”

“…[8][9][10][11][12] During the last years, various series of minilaparoscopic procedures have been reported in the literature, with encouraging results. [11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18] Our group has recently published the first study describing the application of minilaparoscopy to endometrial cancer staging. 12 As a further development of the implementation of ultra minimally invasive surgery in gynecologic oncology, we started to perform radical hysterectomy through a minilaparoscopic approach.…”
