The fifth-generation (5G) wireless communications have been deployed in many countries with the following features: wireless networks at 20 Gbps as peak data rate, a latency of 1 ms, reliability of 99.999%, maximum mobility of 500 km/h, a bandwidth of 1 GHz, and a capacity of 10 6 up to Mbps/m 2 . Nonetheless, the rapid growth of applications, such as extended/virtual reality (XR/VR), online gaming, telemedicine, cloud computing, smart cities, the Internet of Everything (IoE), and others, demand lower latency, higher data rates, ubiquitous coverage, and better reliability. These higher requirements are the main problems that have challenged 5G while concurrently encouraging researchers and practitioners to introduce viable solutions. In this review paper, the sixth-generation (6G) technology could solve the 5G limitations, achieve higher requirements, and support future applications. The integration of multiple access techniques, terahertz (THz), visible light communications (VLC), ultra-massive multiple-input multiple-output (um-MIMO), hybrid networks, cell-free massive MIMO, and artificial intelligence (AI)/machine learning (ML) have been proposed for 6G. The main contributions of this paper are a comprehensive review of the 6G vision, KPIs (key performance indicators), and advanced potential technologies proposed with operation principles. Besides, this paper reviewed multiple access and modulation techniques, concentrating on Filter-Bank Multicarrier (FBMC) as a potential technology for 6G. This paper ends by discussing potential applications with challenges and lessons identified from prior studies to pave the path for future research.

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is chosen as multiplexing techniques and broadly used in today’s radiocommunication environments to overcome spectrum insufficiency. With several superior advantages, however, OFDM is terribly affected by high peak to average power ratio (PAPR) due to offset frequency errors and local oscillator (LO) frequency synchronization errors. The high PAPR can cause nonlinear distortion, which outcomes in intermodulation and spectral leakage. This study aims to model the use of wavelet transform (discrete wavelet transform (DWT)) to replace Fourier transform (discrete Fourier transform (DFT)) that used in conventional OFDM, later in this paper is termed as DFT-OFDM. Clipping filtering techniques then applied to DWT-OFDM. The model was proposed to reduce PAPR in DFT-OFDM. The model was compared to DFT-OFDM using Matlab simulation method. The performance was evaluated using the Complementary Cumulative Distributive Function (CCDF) vs. PAPR. The results show that at PAPR 10-3for DFT-OFDM, it was produced PAPR of 10.6 dB whereas in DWT-OFDM, using Daubechies orde 7 (Daubechies7), Symlet orde 7 (Symlet7), Coiflet orde 2 (Coiflet2), were reached PAPR 4.8 dB, PAPR 3.3 dB, PAPR 3 dB, respectively. It means Coiflet2 providing the best PAPR reduction among other orthogonal wavelets. By applied clipping filtering to wavelet Coiflet2, it was produced PAPR of 2.9 dB for classical clipping and 2.8 dB for deep clipping. It show that wavelet Coiflet2 with deep clipping provided the best PAPR.

OFDM in 5G wireless communication networks has the advantages of a high transmission volume and data rate. However, the problem of a high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of OFDM signals may lead to serious performance degradation and distortion in the high-power amplifier at the transmitter. In this paper, with the clipping process, the self-adjustment gain (SAG) method is proposed, to tune up the positions of the clipped signals, for reducing the PAPR of OFDM signals without increasing the error probability. The distance between the estimated and clipped signal points in the signal space is measured. An updated process is developed to produce the new signal points based on the measured distance and the self-adjustment gain that is obtained from the clipping noise power and measurement power. The simulation results show that for QPSK/OFDM, SAG reduces up to 2 dB and 0.7 dB more PAPR than ACE with one and three iterations, respectively. For 16QAM/OFDM, SAG reduces up to 1.3 dB and 0.5 dB more PAPR than ACE with one and three iterations, respectively. SAG also outperforms the active constellation extension, with the projection onto convex sets (ACE-POCS) and gradient project (SGP) methods in first two iterations. Hence, the proposed method really reduces the PAPR value more effectively, within an acceptable error probability, and its computational complexity is also much lower in comparison with those methods based on the active constellation extension (ACE) with iterations.
