Reduction of Gamma Distortion in Oblique Viewing Directions in Polymer-stabilized Vertical Alignment Liquid Crystal Mode

Abstract: In large liquid crystal displays, the image quality in an oblique viewing direction is a crucial issue. From this perspective, 8-domain polymer-stabilized vertical alignment (PS-VA) mode has been developed to suppress the color shift in oblique viewing directions, compared to that in 4-domain PS-VA mode. To realize the 8-domain PS-VA, the four domains in a pixel are each divided into two regions, such that applying different electric potentials result in different tilt angles in these two regions, while keepin… Show more

“…At last, the GC detection method is mainly performed by using the Deep Belief Network process. Kim et al [20] designed a procedure to classify noncancerous colon tissues and CC via a DL-based CNN method. Initially, the projected study image for the CNN technique, an image-based DL model used as a midinfrared spectrum.…”

“…For this reason, the voltagedependent transmittance varies at different viewing directions, giving rise to gamma-curve distortion and color shift. 89,90 The off-axis light leakage from the crossed polarizers worsens the black state, leading to a degraded CR. The off-axis light leakage from the LC depends on the initial LC alignment, for example, it is more severe for VA than for homogeneous alignment.…”

“…Actually, the gamma shift phenomenon occurs not just in IPS-BPLCD, but in other LCD modes and many optics fields, such as spatial light modulators [38,39], photonic crystals [40], smart dimming windows [41], and so on. Some designs were proposed to eliminate gamma shift, such as special optical structures [42], main/sub-pixel electrodes [43,44] and multi-domain electrodes [45][46][47][48][49][50]. In these designs, the optical scattering structure is an effective method, but it may reduce the resolution and the maximum transmittance, so it is not a fundamental solution.…”
