Reduction of aerodynamic noise of single-inlet centrifugal fan with inclined volute tongue

Abstract: The effect of inclined volute tongue on the aerodynamic noise and performance of a centrifugal fan was investigated by experimental test in this article. The present work highlights that the effect of both the clearance and the radius of the volute tongue has an influence on the performance and noise. The experimental tests of various models aim to obtain the aerodynamic noise and performance characteristics of several fan models. First, the experimental results of centrifugal fan performance are tested by the… Show more

“…Chen et al found that the main source of noise in centrifugal fan is the volute surface (Chen et al , 2018). Hence, there have been studies on noise reduction by improving volute design (Wang et al , 2020; Hao et al , 2020). Noise reduction of air blower with the impeller improvement was studied by Prezelj and Novakovíc (2018).…”

“…Their experimental results showed that the fan flow rate using the new volute tongue was increased by 0.5 m 3 /min, the total pressure was improved by 17 Pa and the noise was decreased by 0.7 dB. Hao et al 5 studied the influence of an inclined volute on the aerodynamic noise and performance of centrifugal fans. They confirmed the positive effect of inclined volute tongue on fan performance.…”
