“…Tolerance development has been documented in numerous animal species, including pigeons, rodents, dogs, monkeys and rabbits (McMillan et al, 1971;Kaymakcalan, 1973;Wikler, 1976;Compton et al, 1990) and to behavioral effects that include antinociception (Martin, 1985), anticonvulsant activity (Colasanti et al, 1982), catalepsy (Pertwee, 1974), depression of locomotor activity (Karler et al, 1984), hypothermia (Thompson et al, 1974), hypotension (Birmingham, 1973), corticosteroid release (Miczek and Dihit, 1980), ataxia in dogs (Martin et al, 1976) and schedule-controlled behavior (McMillan et al, 1970). The fact that tolerance develops to multiple behavioral effects raises the question as to whether a single mechanism accounts for all tolerance (Fan et al, 1994).…”
