Reducing the gap between work as done and work as imagined on construction safety supported by UAS

Abstract: Safety management (SM) is considered a complex task during the construction phase, given the number of high-risk activities that can lead to accidents. The differences between work as done (WAD) and work as imagined (WAI) is one of the main barriers faced by safety management. The Resilience Engineering stand out that improving in safety performance cannot be simply achieved through the use of procedures and barriers, but through the continuous monitoring. On the other hand, the use of Unmanned Aerial Systems … Show more

“…Resilience scholars could do more to consider how entities not only recover from crisis, but also avoid drifting into it. For example, studies considering Work-as-Done versus Work-as-Imagined might provide additional avenues for exploration (Melo & Costa, 2020).…”

“…As the literature shows, the assumption implicit within model 1 paradigm is that compliance leads to safety. However, research shows that accidents still happen despite full compliancy [26], and non-compliance does not necessarily lead to less safety [27]. Safety is just one of many goals to be achieved in executing tasks, and so productivity and safety conflict with each other [28,29].…”
