“…The remaining backscattering is attributed to particles as it is customary, to assume a negligible contribution of CDM to scattering and backscattering (e.g., Mobley, 1994). Chlorophyll concentration was estimated in three ways: (715))}/0.014), e.g., Davis et al (1997), where a p denotes particulate absorption, and the wavelength is given in brackets. The value of the chlorophyll-specific absorption, a*(676) = 0.014 m 2 g chl -1 used here is consistent with published literature values for the oceanic assemblages of phytoplankton (e.g., Sosik & Mitchell, 1995) and was chosen here based on regression of HPLC determination of [chl] versus absorption based [chl].…”

“…13 in Crater Lake, measurements of beam attenuation and chlorophyll absorption were made during June and September 2001. Using a 25-cm path-length WetLabs ac-9, we measured beam attenuation by particles at 650 nm and estimated the chlorophyll concentration from the difference in absorption at 676 and 650 nm (Davis et al 1997;Chang and Dickey 2001). Conventional measurements of phytoplankton biovolume and chlorophyll concentration were obtained from bottle samples as described in McIntire et al (1996) and are available for biweekly periods from 1989 to 2000 for June-September.…”

“…Spectral absorption of particles has been measured in situ using the same filtration system at both low and high spectral resolution. Low spectral resolution data has been used to estimate in-situ chlorophyll concentration from the peak height of the 676 nm Sorret band in an oligotrophic lake (Davis et al, 1997;Boss et al, 2007). High spectral resolution particulate absorption data were shown to provide concentrations of in-situ phytoplankton pigments and hence to extract information on the underlying phytoplankton population (Moisan et al, 2011;Chase et al, 2013).…”
