Reducing energy and maintenance costs while improving light quality and reliability with led lighting technology

Abstract: LED lighting offers significant advantages for pulp and paper facilities, delivering improved performance and reliability with significantly lower total cost of ownership compared to conventional lighting. This paper will examine the many benefits of LED lighting including: the improved quality of light and color rendering, the reduction in UV emissions that eliminates product degradation and insect infestation, the dramatic reduction in maintenance demand and cost, as well as incentive programs that ensure ra… Show more

“…In fact, although the works mentioned above propose different methods to enhance the CRI and LE performance, the results are still moderate for illumination applications. Moreover, only single-chip WLED lamps are considered in those works, hence, the results cannot be applied for multichip WLED lamps that have higher CCTs (>7500 K) [11,12]. Importantly, little attention has been paid to the chemical composition of the materials involved in the manufacturing of WLEDs.…”

“…It has been widely used in areas such as transportation signs, displays, and automotive lighting. [1][2][3] The external quantum efficiency of LEDs is decided by both its internal quantum efficiency and its light extraction efficiency (LEE). 4 However, the LEE of LEDs is limited due to the differences in the interface refractive index (RI) of LED chips, encapsulants, and the surrounding air.…”

“…The standardization boards should specify minimum light levels for basic activities (walking or driving) and conservative top appropriate values for these areas [2]. This is important to avoid rebound effects: to increase illumination levels as lighting becomes "cheaper" [6].…”

“…Moreover, LEDs offer other significant advantages for street lighting compared to conventional bulbs as improved white light quality and color rendering index (CRI), no UV emissions, electrical safety, environmental sustainability, reliability with significantly longer lifetime expectation [7], lower maintenance [6], and they are environmentally friendly, containing no heavy metals such as mercury or lead [8].…”
