Reducing data loss within adaptive process chains in the context of commonly-used CAx systems

Abstract: In many industries the focus in CAx based manufacturing has changed from fixed process chains to ones which can adapt to dynamic inputs. This way process chains can take measurement data into account to produce optimal results. Unfortunately, existing approaches do not integrate well with the existing CAx systems since they do not ensure that existing processes will be kept unchanged. This restriction leads to a low adaption rate in some industries. Especially in the aerospace industry every change in the manu… Show more

“…As a starting mechanism for the event-driven function block system an user-defined operation within Siemens PLM NX is used: whenever the user-defined operation is generated an initial event is sent to the connected function blocks. In this use case, the NX geometry loader function block is triggered and the turbine blade data is loaded from the NX CAD assembly [18]. The next function block which will be activated and analyzes the worn areas of the turbine blade by using the point cloud from a measurement step.…”

“…This can guarantee not only unblocked information flow within the systems but also effective operation of the systems, thus, realizing the CAx integration goal [12]. Klocke et al [13] proposed a method of extended function blocks to reduce data loss within adaptive process chains by introducing data port list, which realized the integration of CAx systems. Li et al [14] presented a digital collaborative design model and investigated product design process integration technology based on Webservice.…”
