This paper presents a mixed integer linear programming model to optimize the costs of maintenance and extra hours for scheduling a fleet of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) so that the products are delivered to prespecified delivery points along a route. On this route, each BEV must have an efficient charging strategy at the prespecified charging points. The proposed model considers the average speed of the BEVs, the battery states of charge, and a set of deliveries allocated to each BEV. The charging points are located on urban roads and differ according to their charging rate (fast or ultra-fast). Constraints that guarantee the performance of the fleet's batteries are also taken into consideration. Uncertainties in the navigation of urban roads are modeled using the probability of delay due to the presence of traffic signals, schools, and public works. The routes and the intersections of these routes are modeled as a predefined graph. The results and the evaluation of the model, with and without considering the extra hours, show the effectiveness of this type of transport technology. The models were implemented in AMPL and solved using the commercial solver CPLEX.

In the manufacturing industry, orders are typically scheduled and delivered through batches, and the probability of machine failure under high-load operation is high. On this basis, we focus on a single machine batch scheduling problem with a maintenance interval (SMBSP-MI). The studied problem is expressed by three-field representation as 1|B,MI|\sum{F_j+\mu}m, and the optimization objective is to minimize total flow time and delivery costs. Firstly, 1|B,MI|\sum{F_j+\mu}m is proved to be NP-hard by Turing reduction. Secondly, shortest processing time (SPT) order is shown the optimal scheduling of SMBSP-MI, and a dynamic programming algorithm based on SPT (DPA-SPT) with the time complexity of O(n^3T_1) is proposed. A small-scale example is designed to verify the feasibility of DPA-SPT. Finally, DPA-SPT is approximated to a fully-polynomial dynamic programming approximation algorithm based on SPT (FDPAA-SPT) by intervals partitioning technique. The proposed FDPAA-SPT runs in O(\frac{n^5}{\varepsilon^2})\ time with the approximation (1+\varepsilon).

This paper presents a green one-to-one pickup and delivery problem including a set of new features in the domain of green vehicle routing. The objective here is to enhance the traditional models for the one-to-one pickup and delivery problem by considering several important factors, such as explicit fuel consumption (which can be translated into emissions), variable vehicle speed and road categorization (i.e., urban, nonurban). Accordingly, the paper proposes a mixed integer programming model for the problem. A case study from the Netherlands shows the applicability of the model in practice. The numerical analyses show that the investigated factors has a significant impact on operational-level logistics decisions and the selected key performance indicators. The results suggest that the proposed green model can achieve significant savings in terms of total transportation cost. The total cost reduction is found to be (i) 3.03% by the use of explicit fuel consumption estimation, (ii) up to 10.7% by accounting for variable vehicle speed and (iii) up to 10.5% by considering road categorization. As total cost involves explicit energy usage estimation, the proposed model has potential to offer a better support to aid sustainable logistics decision-making process.
