Reduced Sensor-Based Harmonic Resonance Detection and its Compensation in Power Distribution System With SAPF

Abstract: Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) is widely used for harmonics and reactive power compensation. However, in addition to the harmonics, harmonic resonance also exists in the network, which is prominent in configurations where both SAPF and capacitor bank are present in the distribution network. Resonance is mainly caused due to interaction between line impedances, capacitor banks and modern electronic equipment with capacitive behaviour. Harmonic resonance leads to an increase in harmonic level around the resona… Show more

“…As a result, this hybrid system has been widely adopted. However, in weak grids, the TSC capacitive impedance and the grid-side inductive impedance can form a parallel resonant network for this system [17,18]. Under these circumstances, harmonic currents in the load current near the resonant frequency can excite parallel resonance in the system [19,20], resulting in increased harmonic content and additional distortion of the voltage waveform, negatively impacting power quality and seriously affecting power consumption of other loads [21][22][23].…”
