Reduced P300 amplitude is consistently associated with trait anhedonia across repeated assessments

Abstract: Depression is one of the most common mental health issues in the United States with a recent survey reporting that 13.1% of adults between the ages 18 and 25 experienced a current depressive disorder in 2017 (Center for Behavioral Health Statistics and Quality, 2018). The two core symptoms of major depressive disorder are depressed mood (i.e., feeling dysphoric, sad, or empty) and anhedonia (i.e., reduced pleasure or interest in almost all activities). Indeed, the presence of at least one of these two symptoms… Show more

“…We also used an established, standardized approach involving a channel-based, centralized, frontal region location analyses of cortical responses evoked during the Flanker task. 9,42 As such, future studies are needed to test whether there is a hemispheric lateralization effect for exercise-induced improvements in post-stroke cortical inhibitory mechanisms.…”

“…It is worth noting that depressive patients generally exhibit diminished P300 amplitude responses for both true positive and false positive reactions (Röschke and Wagner, 2003). Furthermore, reduced P300 amplitudes in depression have been associated with trait anhedonia and higher depressive symptoms during follow-up, indicating a potential role of motivational and hedonic processes in P300 amplitudes among individuals with depression, as well as the electrophysiological marker for disease course (Santopetro et al, 2022(Santopetro et al, , 2021.…”
