Reduced RCE1 expression predicts poor prognosis of colorectal carcinoma

Abstract: BackgroundAs an end-proteolytic enzyme that cleaves the last three residues of proteins with a terminal CAAX, Ras-converting enzyme 1 (RCE1) has an essential role in multiple signaling pathways and take part in the process of differentiation, proliferation and carcinogenesis. The aim of the study is to investigate expression pattern of RCE1 and its prognosis in colorectal carcinoma (CRC).MethodsThe expression of RCE1 and phospho-MAPK family members was confirmed by immunohistochemical staining of CRC tissues. … Show more

“…Research works have shown that Rce1 plays a crucial role in the cancerogenesis and development of various malignant tumors, such as renal cell carcinoma (J. Li et al, 2017), prostate cancer (Huang et al, 2016), and colorectal cancer (Shi et al, 2017). At present, Rce1 has not been studied in HCC and the specific molecular mechanism of Rce1 in the early invasion and metastasis remains unclear.…”

“…Rce1 participates in posttranslational modification of Ras in the endoplasmic reticulum and undergoes subsequent methylation and additional transcription processing (Jaworski et al, ; Stout & Campbell, ). Research works have shown that Rce1 plays a crucial role in the cancerogenesis and development of various malignant tumors, such as renal cell carcinoma (J. Li et al, ), prostate cancer (Huang et al, ), and colorectal cancer (Shi et al, ). “…The development and testing of RPIs and MTIs substantially lag that of prenyl transferase inhibitors. Rce1 is also being investigated as a potential biomarker in various types of cancer, but its utility as a disease predictor remains far from being understood ( Huang et al 2016 ; Li et al 2017 ; Shi et al 2017 ).…”

“…Colorectal carcinoma is one of the most common types of cancer that causes over 600,000 cancer-associated deaths each year worldwide . Despite numerous advances in modern diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, the clinical prognosis of colorectal carcinoma patients remains poor . Therefore, it is of great significance to identify targeted therapeutic drugs for early diagnosis and clinical treatment of colorectal carcinoma.…”
