Bis(acetylacetonato) copper (II): CuA, bis(3-chloroacetylacetonato) copper: CuA-Cl, and their adducts with 4,4`-bipyridine are synthesized. These copper (II) complexes are characterized by mass, FT-IR, UV-Visible, and XRD spectrometries. The interaction of copper (II) complexes: CuA and CuA-Cl with 4,4`-bipyridine, Bpy, and bis-viologen, V2 2+ .2PF6 -are studied in solution by electronic absorption spectroscopy. The solutions of adducts happened between CuA and CuA-Cl with V2 2+ .2PF6 -are reduced by activated Zn powder to afford viologen-based switches within adducts structures.
