Redescription of Genera of Family Eimeriidae Minchin, 1903

Abstract: Taxonomy includes collection, identification, naming and ordering of specimens into a system of words consistent with any kind of relationships among them, the study of literatures and analysis of variations shown by the specimens and finally the publication of data. Practical reasons for the degree of stability-even for a relatively short period of time are: for teaching purposes at advanced levels and for the benefit of many non-protozoolists. The eimeriid coccidia are one of the more controversial groups of… Show more

“…Three of the samples that were included in the present study were obtained from reptiles kept in captivity. The risk of pseudoparasitization due to the inespecificity within Eimeriidae was reported before (see Ghimire ). Therefore, the parasites found in the pet trade might result in misidentification of their proper host species.…”

“…The designation of separate genera with different monophyletic clades within Eimeriidae was encouraged by previous studies (Morrison ; Ghimire ). Therefore, we consider that the use of the genera Acroeimeria and Choleoeimeria sensu Paperna & Landsberg is justified even though we do not know their endogenous development.…”

“…The taxonomic relationship among coccidian parasites is a controversial issue, including haemococcidia (Barta ; Jirku et al . ; Ghimire ). Given the fact that is not possible to identify the different genera among the haemococcidia only from the blood stages (Atkinson et al .…”

“…The taxonomic relationship among coccidian parasites is a controversial issue, including haemococcidia (Barta 2001;Jirku et al 2009;Ghimire 2010). Given the fact that is not possible to identify the different genera among the haemococcidia only from the blood stages (Atkinson et al 2008), it is necessary the use of molecular techniques to identify these parasites from blood samples as a way to avoid killing the lizard hosts.…”
