“…RDW is also an important inflammatory marker that it is associated with coronary artery disease and both acute and chronic heart failure (16)(17)(18). Two previous studies indicated that preoperative RDW levels were associated with POAF (10,11). In the present study, the preoperative RDW levels were similar between the groups, but the postoperative RDW levels were significantly higher in the POAF group.…”

“…Red blood cell distribution width (RDW), or anisocytosis, is an indicator of variability in the size of erythrocytes. Recent studies showed that RDW is also an inflammation marker and may predict POAF (10,11).…”

“…Gungor et al (24) reported that RDW is an independent marker of non-valvular AF in multivariate logistic regression analysis (OR: 4.18, 95 % CI 2.15-8.15, p = 0.01). In one of the fi rst studies to investigate the relationship between RDW and PoAF in patients undergoing CABG, Ertas et al (8) found that while preoperative RDW levels were signifi cantly higher in patients who developed AF, there was not any correlation between postoperative RDW levels and AF. In addition, they remarked that preoperative RDW level predicts new-onset AF after CABG in patients without histories of AF(cutpoint of 13.45, 61 % sensitivity, 60 % specifi city) (8).…”

“…Many studies have shown that RDW is a strong predictor of adverse outcomes in patients with heart failure, stroke and myocardial infarction (4)(5)(6). In previous studies, in patients undergoing coronary angiography and CABG indicated a possible association between RDW and AF (7,8).…”

“…The preoperative RDW has been found to be associated with atrial fibrillation beginning after CABG [13]. Another study has revealed that the RDW constitutes a significant factor that determines the ratio of in-hospital mortality and longterm survival in patients undergoing isolated CABG [14].…”
