“…To validate our interpretation regarding the (path0)physiological meaning of the model parameters A and kZl, we have started to correlate our M R findings with detailed histological analysis in ongoing trials. An extensive discussion concerning the relation between the model parameters and histological observations in colorectal cancer can be found in a paper by Miiller-Schimpfle et al (28). It should be mentioned, however, that a pharmacokinetic model is not the system itself, but rather an abstraction of it that emphasizes those aspects that the investigator feels to be important.…”

“…The values of CEA scintigraphy and dynamic MR imaging have also been evaluated (Muller-Schimpfle et al, 1993;Blomqvist et al, 1996;Jarv et al, 2000;Torricelli et al, 2003). In the field of MR contrast agents, the usefulness of ferromagnetic colloidal particles coated with methacrylate copolymers coupled to antibodies has been reported (Renshaw et al, 1986a).…”

“…All subsequent models reported in the literature presented variations of these three principal models without radically changing the underlying methodology. Pharmacokinetic analysis of DCE-MRI was applied to the assessment of breast cancer [15][16][17], cervical cancer [18], colorectal cancer [19] and heart disease [20][21][22].…”
