Recurrent neurocysticercosis of the frontal lobe. Case report

Abstract: Introduction: Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is the result of ingestion of pork tapeworm eggs (Taenia solium) from an individual with taeniasis (taeniasis/cysticercosis complex). This disease causes the highest helminthic-related morbidity and mortality rates due to its deleterious effects on the central nervous system. 80% of the cases can be asymptomatic and 20% show non-specific clinical manifestations.

“…Stroke affecting brain stem, have influence on both side of the body and the subject may be unable to talk or accomplish any development beneath the neck, whereas this research subject having had multiple cortical atrophy had much preserved cognitive as well physical independence relevant to his daily activities 40 . Having left side hemiparesis have shown better functional recovery recorded by in terms of balance, gait which was contradicted by Another finding who have with right hemiparesis with better functional recovery; as the functional recovery could be related to culture, site of hemiparesis, type of patient [24][25][26] . Being male, having bilateral stroke, findings of this research study need for future research were supported by Alquantani et al 2013 having recorded male preponderance for stroke 41 ; Further recommended need to evaluate the differences in functional recovery post stroke therapy among unilateral and bilateral stroke subjects and he acknowledges lack of health care evidences in this aspect of bilateral stroke.…”

“…The patient had recurrent cognitive impairment and associated neuropsychiatric manifestations triggered by recurrent neurocysticercosis. 69 Some reports have shown favorable outcomes in patients with cognitive impairment and neurocysticercosis after appropriate therapy. 52 , 79 On a neuropathological level, multiple factors functioning alone or in conjunction including local inflammatory (parasitic) reactions, vascular lesions, immune-mediated reactions, or secondary epilepsy induced by neurocysticercosis, as effects of anti-epileptic drugs, may trigger cognitive impairment.…”

“…La neurocisticercosis puede cursar de forma asintomática hasta en el 80% de los casos, y en las formas sintomáticas (20%) las manifestaciones clínicas suelen ser inespecíficas. Puede presentar dos formas clínicas: la intraparenquimatosa asociada a convulsiones y la extraparenquimatosa asociada a hipertensión intracraneal [2,3]. Presentamos el caso de una mujer de 40 años, procedente de Bolivia, que reside en España desde hace 15 años.…”
