Recurrent adamantinoma in the thoracolumbar spine successfully treated by three-level total en bloc spondylectomy by a single posterior approach

“…Primary adamantinoma of the spine is also rare, with six cases described in the literature. Whether primary or metastatic, growth within the spine has been described as slow and with a propensity for local recurrence despite treatment [5] . In a case report by Dini et al, a primary adamantinoma of the spine was described which involved multiple levels of the lower cervical/upper thoracic spine, including the lateral masses and transverse processes [6] .…”

“…Corpectomy is generally accepted as an effective surgical procedure for spinal cancer metastasis, infection, deformity, and traumatic injuries [1, 2]. However, restoration of the spinal column during surgery remains a technical challenge in clinical practice [3, 4]. To create a biological environment for fusion, rigid stabilization with an ideal vertebral body graft is highly recommended, and a number of interbody graft types have been constructed including allografts, cement, metal, and synthetic materials [59].…”

“…Adamantinoma commonly affects the tibia, particularly the anterior diaphysis and metaphysis, accounting for 85%-90% of the cases ( 7 ). Primary or metastatic spinal adamantinoma of bone are rarer, and only four cases have been documented in the previous literature ( 8 11 ). Our center describes two cases of metastatic spinal adamantinoma with more aggressive biological behaviors and uncommon radiographic appearances.…”
