Rectification of modified AMMI stability value (MASV)

Abstract: Additive main effects and multiplicative interaction (AMMI) analysis is widely used for analyzing data of multi-environment trials (METs) to model the genotype-by-environment interactions (GEIs). However, AMMI model do not rank genotypes which is required for aiding selection. In order to overcome these lacunae a stability index titled AMMI stability value (ASV) was proposed by Purchase et al. (1997) using first two interaction principal components (IPCA) from the results of AMMI analysis. Later, Zali et al. (… Show more

“…The AMMI-based stability parameters (ASTABs), such as averages of the squared eigenvector values (EV; Zobel, 1994 ), Annicchiarico’s D parameter (D; Annicchiarico, 1997 ), sums of absolute value of the interaction principal component (IPC) scores (SIPC; Sneller et al, 1997 ), ASV ( Purchase, 1997 ), Zhang’s D parameter or AMMI statistical coefficient or AMMI distance or ASI (DZ; Zhang et al, 1998 ), ASTAB ( Rao and Prabhakaran, 2005 ), sum across environments of the absolute value of GEI modeled by AMMI (AVAMGE; Zali et al, 2012 ), stability measure based on fitted AMMI model (FA; Zali et al, 2012 ), absolute value of the relative contribution of IPCs to the interaction (Za; Zali et al, 2012 ), ASI ( Jambhulkar et al, 2014 ), MASI ( Ajay et al, 2018b ), and MASV ( Ajay et al, 2019 ), were calculated. The Spearman’s rank correlations among all the 13 stability values were computed.…”

“…In METs analysis, quantitative stability strategies are the basis for selecting genotypes, and are increasingly favored by agricultural researchers. The genotypes are evaluated based on the contribution of the scores of the first two principal component scores to the sum of square interactions, and the AMMI stability value (ASV) is used for this purpose [35][36][37]. It is possible to show how genotypic stability is quantified after introducing WAASB, which can be seen as a mixed model version of the ASV evaluation method.…”

“…AMMI model has been mostly employed to separate the additive variance from the multiplicative of the interaction portion by the use of principal component analysis (PCA) (Gauch, 2013;Bocianowski et al, 2019). This analytic mechanism captured the large portion of the GxE interaction sum of squares (Zhang et al, 1998;Ajay et al, 2019).Analysis of Multi Environment trials, irrespective of crops, demand an efficient estimation of main and interaction effects . More over biased in terpretation regarding the stability of the genotypes had been also reported when low proportion of the variance explained by first interaction principal component IPCA1under AMMI analysis (Ramburan et al, 2011;Zali et al,2012;Oyekunle et al, 2017).…”
