Rectangle Lattice Large Mode Area Photonic Crystal Fiber for 2 $\mu$m Compact High-power Fiber Lasers

Abstract: A rectangle lattice silica-host photonic crystal fiber with large mode area (LMA) is successfully fabricated for the first time. The introduction of rectangle lattice contributes to distinct leakage of second order modes and two large air holes provide an effective solution to suppress bend distortion. Numerical results demonstrate that a large mode field area (MFA) of 2500 μm 2 is achieved at the wavelength of 2 μm when the fiber is straight. While the fiber is bent to a radius of 30 cm, it confirms to single… Show more

“…For the investigatin on bend-induced influence, the wellknown formula n b = n(x)(1 + x/R) [40] is adopted to calculated the refractive index n b (at bent state) with the index n(x) (at straight state) and bending radius R (Detailed schematic diagram is illustrated in figure 7(a)). Here, the x-axis bending orientation is considered for simplicity.…”

“…In order to generate energetic femtosecond pulses at the 1700-nm window, 1-MHz 500-fs pump pulses at 1550-nm from a fiber laser (FLCPA-02CSZU, Calmar) were coupled into a 44-cm PC rod (SC-1500/100-Si-ROD, NKT Photonics) with a 100-µm core diameter. Soliton self-frequency shift (SSFS) [7,8] shifted the soliton to 1665 nm (peak wavelength). A 1635-nm long-pass filter (1635lpf, Omega Optical) was used to remove the residual.…”

“…To investigate the bend properties of LMA PCF, the finite element method model combining with the perfectly matched layer boundary condition is built with COMSOL Multiphysics software. The bend loss, which is confinement loss in this article, can be calculated through the formula [14]:…”

“…As a rule, 0.1 dB m −1 as the maximum bend loss for FM and 1 dB m −1 as the minimum bend loss for HOMs is considered to be sufficient for single mode operation at bent state [14].…”
