Abstract: Recent studies using different experimental approaches demonstrate that silent synapses may exist in adult cortex including the sensory cortex and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). Postsynaptic form of long-term potentiation (LTP) in the ACC recruits some of these silent synapses and the activity of calcium-stimulated adenylyl cyclases (ACs) is required for such recruitment.
